Yesterday, we went to the local surf shop because Girlfriend needed new bushings for her skateboard. When we were there, she picked up a maroon knit cap, plopped it on, and asked: "Can I get this one, mom?"
Without skipping a beat, I said: "What, are you trying to insult me?"
Top-down cap in Wollmeise, for the win.
Stay tuned.
Ha! Ha! I've had similar conversations about hats, mitts, etc. with my kids. A great free, slouchy hat pattern is Excess (on Ravelry). I've made two for my kids in Malabrigo Rastita. The wind was so crazy yesterday, I took my son's Excess hat and it was soft and cozy. Now I need to make another one!

My son has finally figured out that Mom's hats are the best, and his friends think so too. He now picks out his own alpaca yarns in Peru and brings them home for me to knit.
