Whenever I wear a vest, it's more about adding a bit of this or that plus maybe, maybe a bit of warmth. The thing I like about this particular vest, Splash, is that you don't need to dress it up or down, really. You can throw on a belt to close it, or even use a shawl pin. In my case, I just used the "stick" that came with my shawl pin. Works for me!
Worked from the top down and in one piece, this pattern features a provisional cast on and some short rows, but if you don't like doing provisional cast ons, the knitting police won't be contacting you. If you want to skip it, just forget about it, cast on normally, and then later pick up and knit stitches along the shoulder line when you would be otherwise placing live stitches on the needles from the provisional cast on. You may not be perfectly seamless in this case, but at least you won't be pulling your hair out if you don't prefer the technique.
One of the things I love about this vest is that it takes so little yarn. The Ella Rae Superwash has a lot of yardage and I zipped right through it and used just a few skeins. If you have a little extra, you could add length, add short rows for a more dramatic or a fold-down collar...shoot, you could even add cap sleeves if you wanted to.
This is the perfect spring or fall knit--you know, something to add a splash of color and a little bit of warmth in the office or wherever.
