Ella

You know how it is: You're working on a pattern you saw in a book or on a web site and you're excited all the way through. Who cares if the sleeves are taking forever? I'll be fabulous in it! And that model! The lines! They're to die for!

And then you finish it, seam it up, try it on...and next thing you know you're downtown in some seedy local bar ordering up a cheap whiskey. Neat.

But this Ella. It is one of those gems that sort of grows on you as you go. When I saw the pattern I thought it was pretty, and challenging, too. Plus, I thought I may not be able to carry it off.

But was I wrong. Let me tell you, this is one of my all time favorite knitted items. No, I take it back. It is my favorite. Part of the deal is selecting the right yarn. I used four skeins of Twisted Sisters Jazz Handpaint Merino. It is slightly heavier than a sock yarn, but not quite a worsted weight as the pattern calls for. I've been checking around and the Lorna's Laces Shepherd Handpainted Sport is a perfect substitute. I knit mine on size 8 needles.
