There are people who take knitting very seriously. There are others who do not. I like to think of myself as an in-betweener when it comes to knitting and this is my attempt at taking the super serious (Fair Isle) and making a little fun with it. I certainly could never create a gorgeous Fair Isle Anything without a lot of coaching, so when it came to this cap I threw my personal caution to the wind. It's just a monkey. A set of monkey...bones.
This is shown on us girls but boys and adventurous grown-up men will like the cap, too. You can vary the colors. Shoot, it'd be great if you used colors they feature in all those sock monkeys. That'd be funny and totally fitting.
If you want a more beanie-like cap, omit a few rows of lice stitch before and after the monkey motif. And then, instead of doing crown decreases every third row, reduce it to every other row. That will make it closer-fitting.
