They don't serve wine at my local yarn store. I suppose that might be a smart thing because the place is quite small and there isn't space to juggle, dance, get away from the snarkers, or deep fry a turkey in a vat of boiling oil.
So Saturday, I visited LisCat and pretty much did all of the above save the dipping the turkey into a vat of boiling oil part. I would bet you, however, that if I called ahead and made the request, Catrina, the owner, would have said "yes."
The people there are great, and even though HWWV came back to pick me up after some of the usual crowd left, we got one small group shot. That's me in the middle juggling those yarn balls (Earlier, I had asked the gals if they were breast prosthetics and they got a laugh. I guess I should have noticed that they were in a bowl along with lots of other knitted balls and knitting needles. It took me a minute or two for me to compute. . . Oh, they're Yarn Balls. Duh.)
And if things didn't get any better, I actually met a woman who surfs, and yes, she does wear sweaters on the beach. What knitter in their right mind who doesn't also surf would keep their knits stuck in the closet somewhere?
Which reminds me. I finished Bibi, and I love it! I wore it yesterday and I'm wearing it again today. We have been blessed with something that can be called "weather," and for once I'm not sweltering under a boat load of fiber. I used 6 balls of Noro Matsuri in Color 1. Read more about it in the "Winner's" sidebar. (Also, look close and see the necklaces I'm wearing. Jennifer from LisCat made them for me. I will try to talk her into making more of them and selling them.)

Looks like a grand time. I am debating having some wine with dinner tonight but then I keep imagining a tragic accident with rose wine and white angora. :)

Write me next time you plan on going. I don't get to quilt too much, but when I do a project, that is where I go. Also, I have a couple friends there!

Love your sweater! I just finished a cardigan in Matsuri. Whatever you do, don't put it in the dryer! I put it in on fluff (no heat, must be safe) and discovered a fluffier and smaller sweater later.

Sounds like a good day at the LYS to me -- if only my local would do the same...
And as for sweaters on the beach, seems completely kosher to me. I'm from San Francisco, where no self respecting swimmer goes anywhere near the water without some warm toasty for when the Weather Changes. (And a shark cage)

I've been reading your book over the weekend and can't wait to start Favorite Cardigan. I just need to finish up a holiday present first. I love the pictures, reminds me of when I use to live in sunny CA instead of the NW.

Hi Wendy.......It was great to meet you at Liscat. You are exactly as cool as I thought you would be! Thanks for the shout out on the necklace - I am glad you like it. I'll let you know when I begin to sell them, for now its only my close friends. Loved meeting HWWV and Girlfriend; she is beautiful and he is hot! Oh yeah the Bibi is very pretty. Can't wait til you come back to Liscat. Happy Knitting!

Pretty! (Sweater, necklace, glasses frames, you)
Wine + yarn = big fun, clearly.
Now I want to surf...

I have 10 balls of that exact color that you knit your's in. Hmmmm, I might have to consider that sweater. I'm a bit afraid that I might appear a wee bit "chesty" or "Chunky" as you and HWWV think you look in sweaters. And, then If I layer a shirt underneath then I really might be "chesty"
I still might do it though. It's lovely.
And, you DON'T look chunky. Send a link to the necklaces. Those are so nice!

Don't you know that "friends don't let friends knit drunk"?
- safety first! ;)

As I think it needs to be said, I apologize on behalf of the Boston knitting community for the insensitive comments about the sweaters & beach combo. I wish this was coming from the actual person who wrote about it. I personally love your book and the layout. The beach thing isn't my lifestyle but I wouldn't criticize it for being someone else's. And I thought the sexy layout was a refreshing change from dowdy knitting books. Keep it coming! Happy holidays to you & your family!

Your hair looks amazing in this post! Of course, the sweater looks pretty fantastic too.

What a fun day.
Bibi and necklace are gorgeous, but I'm dying to know - what is the pattern of the sweater being worn by (your twin? the person who actually used the balls as breastsesses). That pink stripey bit of loveliness. I must have it.

Is the lady to your right in the group shot wearing the cover design from you book?
Posted by: Kathy | December 16, 2008 at 01:10 PM
That's Catrina, the owner, and she is wearing a dress that she knit for herself. I asked about a pattern and she's not very interested in writing it out (but I offered to help!)
The sweater that Ali is wearing to my right is indeed the cover sweater.

I might have to knit that Bibi. That was my childhood nickname. (Actually my parents and siblings still call me that)
Posted by: beatriz marin | December 16, 2008 at 10:28 PM
They could be fake boobies! Thinking I might need such an object (luck was on my side), I did some research online and patterns do exist for those who are not happy with the fit and weight of traditional prosthesis. So you were not far off base afterall.

I had to do a double-take to see which one was you in the group shot. The gal in pink looks like she could be your sister!
Bibi's darling. I hope you get many opportunities to wear her!
