I went to get my hair cut the other day and my hair stylist was wearing a T-shirt that said: "I'm a White Girl."
Well, duh. I could tell by looking at her.
But, let me just say about different colors of people and backgrounds and whatnot, for some stupid reason, I want to yell it from the rooftops:
"I'm Swedish, and I'm Proud!" (Even though I'm not sure people really care.)
Which brings me to this: This Fair Isle thing, and I know it isn't necessarily only Swedish in nature, but don't you think it's sort of fussy? It can get a bit fiddly: stuff I would associate with being uptight, or what have you. And I'm not getting all racial against the Nords, but I'm sort of drawing parallels, here, nothing too serious. It's just that all that Nordic stuff on the sweaters doesn't sit that well with me--as a knitter especially--and since I'm of Northern European decent--and trust me, I'm only a couple of generations fresh off the boat--I can say, and I have the right to say so (heh)...the last thing I would want to wear is a round yoke Fair Isle with all the bells and whistles, you know, the hearts and flowers and giant triangular doll shapes or what have you.
Add to that, if you ask me to sew on a couple of those brass-y-ish hooks and noodles, or whatever the heck they are called, I will drive to the closest railroad tracks and lay the sweater down, along with my fancy needles, on the tracks. No way, Jose. None of those fancy brass closures are allowed in this house (not to mention, the relative favor of those closures will allow me to finally dispose of my Addi Turbos. Turns out, I'm allergic to them.)
I've been struggling with this one. I made the little kid's Drive-Thru (that you all named for me) and even though I'm sort of not comfortable with designing mother/kid designs, the truth is, after so many emails and requests, I can see that it might be fun to come up with something "close," but not too close, if you know what I mean. There will be three repeats of this mild Fair Isle motif. Colors will change a bit as I get closer to the neckline.
CONTEST: You will have until Sunday at sometime around when the "I Love Lucy" reruns show when I will close the comments (about 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time if those car races aren't on). Until then, you may, in comments, one at a time, give me names for this Adult Version of The Children's Version of Drive-Thru. After I close comments, I will select a RANDOM name from the pile. This person will receive a signed copy of my book, "Custom Knits" After that, I will announce the next leg of the contest wherein we will hold a public poll from which we will chose a name out of my favorite top-ten names.

How about Car Hop, the predicesser (?) of the drive through.

"Night At The Drive-In"? Or "Drive-In Movie"? It's what you should wear to cover your shoulders, you know. And the kid version is Drive-Thru, which is Fun In A Car. The adult versions of Fun In A Car? I guess the Drive In Movie about covers what's polite for mixed company :)
And that color gives me a little sassy 50's feel - a saucy gal headed out with her steady to the movies, taking a sweater along.

I will go with a name that has nothing to do with the original sweater name.
How about "watermelon sorbet". It's because of the color -- it looks like watermelon on my screen. If it's not quite that same red, I will suggest "raspberry sorbet" or just "berry sorbet"

What about "take away", linked to Drive Tru since they are both related to fast food, but it also seems appropriate as this sweater would be the perfect thing to take anyware and it seems already very comfortable. I adore that colour !

How about the QuickE ChickE? It's looking good, no matter what name you decide on :)

Wonderful post! I'll give you something Nordic (but not Scandinavian) for the name - "Jyrkkä ei kilkuttimille"
It is Finnish and means basically "Strict no to all jingly(?) things"
Jingly as in jingle bells. Donät know if that's a word, though :)

I am totally digging the Fifties vibe and want to throw 'Strawberry Malt' and 'Sock Hop' into the mix. It is coming out gorgeously - can't wait to see it as a FO.

I'm going to buck the trend here and suggest "Afternoon Delight". Because I think more things should be so named.

What about "Not Nordic" or "Strictly Swedish"

Sonic. Michigan doesn't have any Sonics that I know about and there is one being built in a nearby city and I'm obsessed with the details and need to know how soon I can get a slushy.

"Cherry Fizz" comes to mind when I look at that :)

I'd have to be terribly corny and propose: "Sit-in".
Ugh. Sometimes I just disgust myself.

"Take Away"
Posted by: Ingrid | September 04, 2008 at 03:28 AM
I'll stick to the theme and suggest "Take Out".

Circles of love, I have no idea where it came from but sounded like it might work. Marion

I still love the Cheapo Quicko name! As for the adult version, really I'd be happy with just a bigger size of what Girlfriend is wearing. I loved that sweater just as it was but only need it bigger.
Got your book about 1 1/2 weeks ago and it is wonderful. I brought it to my secret knitting group (long story on why it's secret) and we all drool over it. Very well done book!

The Fair Isle circles remind me of coins, so how about 'Coin-Op'? I do love my conveniences.

I like "Dine In" myself. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Posted by: Bezzie | September 04, 2008 at 03:45 AM
I think it should be called Hooks and Noodles. Great concept.

How about CINEMA COZY ?

Dine Out. Strawberry Creamcicle.

How about A Quickie from Kinicky (did I even spell that right?)

OMG... My first thought was "Ring around the Collar" Ha! Ha! It is a lovely sweater and I know this name will not make the final round or whatever but I just crack myself up.Talk about Random!!!

"Off Track" (reference to your train track comment)
