Speaking of wieners, I haven't had one in a lot of years. There was a time when I would wait in line at Pinks for a hot dog with mustard and extra onions, well actually two of them, but nowadays, the idea of slim hips sort of takes precedence. Not to mention, they use pig lips and snouts and ears in those things. Not that it ever really bothered me until I read that book by the heir to that ice cream fortune, but still. I haven't had a wiener in years.
I haven't had a lot of things in years, either. I haven't had ice cream, or a Popsicle, or apple juice. I haven't had a donut, or Hula Hula Rice, or a plum, either. I have had pizza for breakfast, though.
I haven't had a massage in five or so years, not that five years for a massage is a bad thing--many people haven't ever succumbed to such a thing in many years more and let me tell you, I had this one and my first and only massage with protest and yes, I took off my undies, and it was a-okay, but I haven't had a massage in five years.
So, today, after I dragged myself to the gym in the midst (mist) of our June Gloom and I saw a guy who I *thought* I knew really well--or, at least seemed really familiar--and after I followed him for, like, an
hour, I realized I haven't had sushi in a long time, either. And when about an hour passed and I continued to eye him here and there, wondering where and how I knew him, I finally understood that it was that hand towel he had rolled up and tied around his bald head just so that made me crave the sushi and think he was a chef with whom I was familiar, but I didn't know him at all, after all. He was, actually, just a guy whose head was the right diameter for a rolled up hand towel.
I just asked HWWV if he had seen that guy. He said he didn't. And then when I was just about to ask him how to do that Sushi Chef Rolled Up Head Towel Thing he stopped me with a look. And then it hit me: Ask HWWV how to chop up a duck and you'll hit the mother load. But the head towel? He'll send you to Wikipedia so quick your hair will blow sideways.
So, I met some friends at a not-so local yarn store yesterday. Check out this sparkly lace weight metallic yarn from Artyarns. Gosh knows what I will ever do with it. I suggested to the shop owner that I might make a nice mesh rectangle-y scarf object from it and hang little gold coins from the ends.
From the look on her face, you'd think she'd rather me just unroll the skein and wrap it around my head, Sushi-Chef style, instead. (Anyone know where I can get some little, lightweight coins?)

Here is a link. You're just one scarf away from being an "I Dream of Jeannie" twin! But seriously, no ice cream!??! Amazing.....

I was just thinking the other day that you have had so many traumatic things happen to your bod of late, and maybe a nice massage would do you good, as it does me, but I shoulda known you aren't in the market for it-- or you would be spending some hard-earned yarn money on massages already! Oh damn, that nixed it for good, now didn't it?
I've started trying to guess which yarns are which from your photos before reading alla bout it, and scarily enough I guessed the Artyarns correctly! Could be because I spent a lot of one-on-one time with a nice hank of their silk and merino recently, knitting up a pair of handwarmers that are pretty much the deluxe item of my entire knitting year. Love the sparkle, and hey, the scarf-and-gold-coin thing has definite bellydancer overtones...

Do you have any theater- or dance-related shops in your area? You might find the needed kind of coins in these shops.
Oh, and bead shops can help too! :)

I think the gilt ones would look great. Let me know if you'd like me to go shopping: I don't think they ship internationally, and it's a lovely lunch hour jaunt.

Bellydancer is the first thing that came to my mind too! Actually, I've seen big mesh crochet triangles that act as hipscarfs over harem pants or a skirt....love them...but I digress (Bellydance student here)
Anyhoo, I've seen the small lightweight coins at fabric stores (fabricville here in Canada), and the walmart craft section.

Hee...I caught that look she gave you, too - but I can picture a rectangally scarfy thing with coins, maybe tied around the hips, or draped on the shoulders - works for me, and the yarn's perfect for it.

this yarn is a beauty and i would buy it just to buy it an never make a thing with it, but that's me!

Shipwreck Beads (http://www.shipwreckbeads.com) can set you up with dancing coins from 10mm up. They also have the little bells. I've ordered from Shipwreck and they've been great (usual disclaimers, not affiliated, blah blah)

I get the no weiners but ice cream!?! I love getting massages. Thankfully my health plan covers it. I leave on my panties though.

Honey, life's too short! My 42nd birthday's today and I had ice cream with my daughter (black raspberry chip-OMG!) yesterday and I think popsicles are very refreshing on a hot day. Everything in moderation--I never deny myself, just don't overdue it. Go get an ice cream! Or sushi, or a donut.....

I wholly agree with the wee coin idea!
(and I ate your share of ice cream last night. Please take your share next time... I need to head back towards slender).

Try Romi's Ice Queen from the Winter Knitty.

I totally agree with the wee coin idea. That yarn would look great (and sound great!)
But... would you mind eating ice cream? please? I seem to have eaten your share last night......

Friends, don't feel like I'm holding back on the ice cream thing. It's just that I'd rather have cheese, instead.

Whatever you do with it will be perfect!
Thanks for the morning giggle.

Oh my, little gold coins! I'm pretty sure I still have a pair of earrings left from the short-lived gypsy/boho fad of the early 90's...which reminds me, I actually sewed a white vest from some Burda pattern and attached more little coins all along the bottom as trim, and then wore it with harem pants (once anyway). Oh my god I can't believe I just admitted that. I hope my fashion sense has improved over the years!

divine yarn...I'm sure I would have bought some just to stare at lovingly with no plans to knit it up. Beautiful!
I get the cheese thing, but still? No ice cream? It hurts my little brain.
Posted by: sue Treiber | June 05, 2008 at 09:54 AM
ooohhh cheese.....i love extra sharp cheddar cheese!
Posted by: Darlene | June 05, 2008 at 10:16 AM
I think the scarf (or whatever it becomes) will be beautiful!
I am so craving sushi right now!

What is Hula Hula rice?! Somehow it sounds just delicious to my pregnant self. :)
Posted by: Sandra | June 05, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Hula Hula Rice was my favorite childhood cereal. I don't think they make it anymore, but I always think about it. I lost one of my baby teeth in a bowl and couldn't ever find it.

Funny all the comments about no ice cream -- for me its more like, "no hot dogs?!" I don't care for sweets usually, so no ice cream is no problem! But boy, am I a sucker for a good hot dog....

JoAnn fabrics in the states carries a "trim" with super lightweight coins. The coins are about the size of a penny, and you get 12 or 13 coins in a 12" section of tape. The picture is here:
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3455&PRODID=prd1414 (cleverly called "Twill Tape w/Coin"), but don't freak about the price. It's sold in the stores by the yard (or fraction thereof). Of course, if you want silver coins, and if you only want 17 of them, you can always just send me your address :-)

I think that yarn is gorgeous! You can find some interesting coins here
http://www.firemountaingems.com/search.asp?SKW=coins&Constraint=68b
there are a few pages of options.
Yes, I am a belly dancer. Heee!
I think you'd like it, have you checked out The Indigo? They are in CA, you can find them on Youtube. They are sadly, not knitters.
