Progress
The Bunny just threw up and I lost my train of thought. Honestly, how she manages to be the world's first bulimic cat who weighs as much as she does is beyond me.
I just was saying that I started a little bolero out of the Hemp for Knitting Allhemp6Lux and I think might be able to almost finish it tonight, especially if the Laker's continue to suck beans and I have a chance to work on it. This one will have little cap sleeves and a self tie at the bottom, something I'll use after a work out to cover my tank, or as a layering piece. I think I will make another version with long flow-y sleeves out of some blue linen. But as far as the hemp goes, this might be a great first project for hemp if you haven't ever tried it before. I think I might use only two or three hanks of it for my size. Each hank has nearly 150 yards, so it is a pretty good value (it's on sale right now).
As far as my slump goes, no worries. Sometimes I just need to start typing without thinking and whatever is bugging me comes out. And since I have visitors this month (The Shawl-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, anyone?), I have been a little preoccupied.
On other news, I hear my book was displayed at the recent Book Expo America. I had no idea!

i got a chance to fondle the new allhemp lux at a fibre festival and it was wonderful to the touch. i can't wait to try it out myself. can't wait to see the book too! i love the pattern on the cover i don't even need to turn the page!

Hide the pigs! Stat!
And yay - to the book expo at the Book Expo!
Posted by: Lizbon | June 10, 2008 at 11:47 AM
First off, congrats on the book at the expo, WooHoo!
Secondly, my cat sounds like your bunny. She throws up all the time, and yet she is like a tub a lard (yes, I'm southern) when you try and lift her. Bulimic, ha! ;-Þ
Writing can be so cathartic. We just never know what will pop out when we start typing, do we? It's a good way to clear the cobwebs and dust from our minds. :-)

Cats manage to weigh so much yet puke b/c we humans feed them the absolute wrong things. Cats are obligate carnivores and meant to eat meat, yet most peopel feed them dry cat food which contains almost entirely grain. If you put them on canned food or a raw diet I guarantee they'll lose weight and barf less. Start here for info: http://www.felineoutreach.org/EducationDetail.asp?cat=Nutrition
(I know this isn't a cat blog and I do come here for the knitting but you hit on a hot button of mine.)

Wow, where to start? Um, sometimes this is a cat (or Chuck) blog! It's okay by me-- my boy cat has me worried with an infected toe that already had to be declawed and is still not healing well...sigh. I agree about the diet, mine get Innova, the new no-grain formula.
I used your link to Yarn Botanika, looking for the knit kit for Mentionable, and their site looks pretty empty. I am glad to buy the pattern from you and sub yarn-- would the Allhemp6lux work, for example? Let me know if I am way off, thanks.
And oh geez, no wonder you're a bit low lately-- it's in law season! Say no more, babe.

I think the LUX will work, although you might have to fiddle with the gauge a bit. Another one that will work great is the Tilli Tomas Plie or Fil de la Mer.
As far as Yarn Botanika goes, I know that they (www.oneplanetyarnandfiber.com) have been crazy-busy. It could be that the actual "Yarn Botanika" brand yarn isn't real active right now.

Wow. Must be exciting to see your book displayed like that! Congratulations. I look forward to seeing it when it hits the shelves out my way.
As for the cat barf thing, first I bought a FURminator to keep the cats from ingesting too much fur (we have a cat who is a chronic over-groomer), and secondly, the food I swear by is Natural Balance. Remember Dick Van Patten and the TV show Eight is Enough? That's the guy.
Good luck with in-law thing.

Oh good! I've got some Allhemp in my stash. Enjoy your, uh, visitors.

That's great that your book was at the Expo. I've never knit with Hemp, I'm guessing it would be a good yarn for the weather where I live. I love the Bolero, it looks beautiful in red.

Are you working that bolero from a pattern or just from your spunky little mind? I'm kinda loving it and was just thinking I needed a new project. Mind sharing? Thanks!

Making it up as I go. If it turns out right, I will make a pattern for it and a long-sleeve version out of linen.
Posted by: Wendy | June 10, 2008 at 04:31 PM
Well I guess I'll just have to wait and buy the pattern when you're finished. At least you know you've already got one buyer on the line!

Excited about the pattern! I've been nervous about knitting with hemp - is it like linen?
I knit a linen hand towel and felt like I was using wire. (Very soft after washing though). I've pre-ordered your book on Amazon - can't wait :)
I didn't know that about the 'obligate carnivore' thing with cats. Explains a lot! My kitty is 17, and still doing pretty well except for the throwing up.

I discovered your blog today. You are a very talented woman. Let an "old lady" 54 tell you something. Enjoy your life now. Your pain may get better or not, but you have this time and no other promised. Enjoy your family, even the in-laws. Who knows, in a few years your mother-in-law may be a good friend.

Wow, we have cat who throws up all the time and still stays... well, fat. And I hope I found a solution through your blog after all these years going to the vet...
Congrats for your book!

Adrienne has it pegged. I had a cat who threw up all the time and was tubby. It turned out she was reacting to the catfood, especially the grains in the catfood. She ate tons to try to get some nourishment, threw up because the food irritated her digestive track. We switched to decent canned food (in our case Wellness) alternated with raw, and *poof* problem solved.

Oooh, cute! I can see lots of uses for such a great top. And the color is divine.

So does the book exhist somewhere, or was it just a poster advertising the book? Regardless, congratulations!!

Your reverse whammy on the Lakers worked! Keep it up.You can knit any time - this is the playoffs.
Good luck on the hip. Mine has recently and rather quickly turned whonkey on me, and I'm afraid it may be replacement time. At least a replacement cures the pain.

The Bunny is a cat? I'm sooooo confused! I started PT for my knee recently and I think of your writing when I go there. I have a friend who had two hip replacements and she said it was a breeze and supposed to be much easier than having a knee done. Good luck! Can't wait for your book!!!

How exciting about your book!
So much going on in your life, it's probaby a little unreal that The Book is coming out soon.
I can't wait to buy it :o)
