Just a Little More Soul Sucking on my Way to Nirvana

Noname2 Yesterday, after a full session of what I call "running the Yogi Gauntlet" and as I lay there during the loudest Savasana ever in time (didn't manage to get far enough away from the groaner, the snorer, or the heavy breather) I got to thinking that in spite of what I consider a little progress, I'm still pretty dang jammed up, and I have to confess now that it just may not have all that much to do with knitting or not knitting. It has more to do with wives' tales and their orientation. It also has to do with not being able to communicate or to be understood these days.

Just the other day, for example, we were having a conversation about how I was always told that I couldn't swim right after eating. Someone in our party asked, "Is there really a medical explanation for it?" And I said something to the effect: "Probably only a small one, kind of like you don't want to practice yoga right after eating, or say, compete in some sort of a race. But I will tell you what I really think is behind the whole deal. I think this whole 'you can't swim until an hour after you eat' rule is something our parents made up so they could relax after dinner."

Then someone said: "You know, they don't have that kind of rule back home."

"Why?"Nonameshawl

"Because we have maids in our country."

Yeah. Jammed up, I tell you. Jammed up completely and totally. And you know how I know? My third eye told me so.

BTW: While my little Yogi Bolero dries in the dryer (Yes! You can throw hemp in the dryer!), I've been working on an old project. But hear this, my friends, don't you dare say a single thing to me about it, okay?

Just. Let. It. Be. I don't want to think too much about this thing or my head might explode.

ETA: If you want to know what this project is, here is a link. I cannot bring myself to type out its name, but if you want to take a look, you'll find it here.

Oh, so that was the whooshing sound I heard (soul sucking out, nirvana flowing in)! I admire your great sense of humor, it will save your ass every time. I try not to be one of the loud ones during shivasan (corpse pose, folks, just for practice-- you lie down at the end of yoga class, and it's kinda like taking a nap on you pad back in kindergarten-- pure bliss), but sometimes I do drift off.

Howdy to good ol Chuck in the corner, keeping his watchful eye on you. Thinking good and funny thoughts for you today.

I won't say a single word. I actually have a question. Why isn't your brioche stitch video tutorial on the sidebar? Just asking.

Glad you're back into your yoga.

I think you can get cramps if you have a full stomach, and the water is REALLY cold. Like, if you're on a seaside holiday in Englad, you probably want to leave it a half hour.

Apropos not of this post, I've been thinking about a couple things from you blog lately.

The first is your balls (snerk. See, always funny). I am completely fascinated when knitting with the way the ball unwinds. I looooove to watch it. The same way cats will watch a mousehole. I just stare and stare. Knit a row. Stare. Turn it. Look! It's a star! It's a spiral! Do you think that has anything to do with the ball-making? Is that the link? Only in reverse.

The second is the two-handknits at a time phobia. The other day I got on the busm, and there was a girl wearing a (bought) wool jumper in bulkyweight green yarn and (bought) gloves in about a sportweight orange yarn. And I thought: those don't go! But to a non-knitter, thigns like gauge and texture don't even exist. They are just a jumper. And gloves. No different than if it'd been a woven top.

I will wear two handknitted things, depending on other factors. But I hate to be knitting *while* wearing handknits. I feel this weird... shame? Or something? I don't know, but it's irritating.

Rudee, I don't think I ever thought of placing it there. I'll have to see if Typepad will support the video. . .

It'll be gorgeous when you're done. Perhaps too gorgeous for gifting. A friend made the same shawl and entered in competition at Rhinebeck. It was spectacular.

Yup . I couldn't swim either, and come to think of it, the 'rents did relax by the pool . Actually, back in the day my aunt would send us( my cousin & I) to the beach completely alone for the entire day while she lounged at her boyfriends beach house. She was well beyond screaming(for help) distance.. and no life guards. I got pretty good at swimming - since i had to "save" my older heavier cousin many times while wave surfing( no boogie boards - i don't think they were discovered yet)
LOVEthephotosandWANTwhateveritis.
sorry . i didn't mean to say that.
;)

oooh it's all neat and swirly.
those may not be the technical terms.

Kelley is bad news. She posted that link and now I may be absent from blogging and reading blogs for a long, long, long time. The Isis shawl is stunning. Note to self: remember how poorly you and lace and lace weight yarn get along.

*silence*

not a word your head must.not.explode.

I'm not saying anything. But you know I know what It is. I foresee a great deal of heavy breathing, counting to 100, and/or a badly bitten lip in your future.

And pork. Lots of pork.

I crocheted that same shawl -- and I thought it was never going to end, too. But once it did, it was fabulous, everyone loved it and it is DONE DONE DONE. Yours looks great, keep on truckin'!

are you thinking of making a pattern for the yoga cover-up?
i knit the table runner from Yarn Play w/ Hemp. that was my 1st time knitting with the Hemp! loved it!
if you don't i may have to try out the new little cover-up on Knitty. it's cute too.

I won't comment, but the photo is making me get the book back out and contemplating learning to crochet just so I can have one.

Will you get your house back soon?

The house comes back at the end of the month.

And yes, I'll put together a pattern. I am wearing my short sleeve today to yoga and once I complete another long sleeve version, I'll get it all ready. It'll be soon!

i won't say a word i don't want your head to explode!

It really is going to be a beautiful wrap!

As a former public pool lifeguard, I think a lot of the rules about not swimming for a half hour is that it's really really gross when a kid pukes in a pool. Full stomach + pool water + kids horsing around = gross, gross, gross!

I've extended this theory though to far beyond the pool. I always like a little half hour siesta after eating. Get the digestion started right.

There's always one stinker (literal and/or figurative) in every yoga class, and more than one if you are really *needing* the class. Sigh.

I think the not-swimming-after-eating is to prevent stinkers in the pool. Not everyone (esp kids) may be so assiduous as to get out of the pool, dry off, and go to the bathroom. Also goes along with the not-vomiting theory posited by the lifeguard. An hour after eating almost everyone will have gone to the bathroom already... And that's my professional medical opinion :)

Am in the process of a lovely crocheted item myself...that I hook one stitch at a time without looking ahead at the whole deal....sorta like yoga...one pose at a time.

As a yoga teacher in Chicago....yes, one sees, hears, and smells all sorts of people's mannerisms in class!! Unintentional noises don't bother me...it's the gals talking about the movie they saw last night as I'm trying to lure and settle into a nice centered, grounded and quiet
savansana that is disruptive to all. I always have my knitting up front next to my mat to remind me/us that yoga, too, is one stitch at a time, one breath at a time...meant to be enjoyed.

I won't say the name but I love it. I'll be glad for you when it's all done. The company AND the shawl!

that shawl will be spectacular because I FINALLY finished a similar one (Karabella pattern crocheted on teeny hook with a fine cashmere in the same color as your link)and it is really something. Mine has a lacy ruffled edge that took just as long as making all those spiral hexagons, but well worth it. the thing is it was one of those projects that looks really difficult, but each part of it was pretty easy and zen while making it.
Always love your blog--take care,

When I first brought up your site today, I couldn't believe what I was looking at! I didn't think I would see this project again. Don't feel bad, I've got one that has been sitting a lot longer, and I would love to finish it. Just don't have any desire.
The hemp? Love the stuff. Can't wait until you have a pattern using it. By the way...is your book out, or is it still in the preorder stage?

preorder . . .

Maybe you can think of it as building up your karma?
