Nothing Like a Fish Eye Lens to Keep Your Spirits High
The hardest part about my current situation is that I have slowly, ever so slowly, given up on my usual routine. I no longer do The Yoga, except in my dreams--and in those, I've been chronically late or arrive with boots on that can't be pried off. I no longer "work out" (I sort of just go through the motions). I still do, however, enjoy a round of people-watching every now and then, and to tell you the truth, that is what keeps me showing up at the gym.
The other day, on my one of two days that I actually did any physical activity, I noticed a lady about three treadmills down wearing a giant visor, a polo shirt, some nice, white clam diggers, and a full-on plastic, red, white and blue lei. As a bonus, when I looked to my right, about two treadmills down, I spotted a probable office worker, most likely a guy from the IT department, running like a crazy man. That sight, on its own, wasn't anything special, but add to it a pair of Dockers, some black socks, regular walking shoes, a button-down shirt and a lanyard with a company ID card a-bouncin' left and right, right and left, and it became a very special day, indeed. Notwithstanding that I was actually moving, other than the kind of moving I've been doing these days: knitting and purling.
Not that knitting and purling is bad. It's just that I'm more used to pining over the knitting while I'm doing something physical or at least walking the dogs. Nowadays, the reverse is the reality. I'm knitting and purling and wishing I could
actually walk the dogs without lumbering here and there, feeling punished, old and in pain.
I was a little sad yesterday after the news, and there is more sadness today. But the good new is, I don't have to have a hip replacement. The bad news is, I'm probably facing some sort of hip surgery, but we shall see. I will visit an orthopedic hip-guy next week and fingers crossed he will think this tear I have in the lining between the ball and socket of my hip can be helped with physical therapy instead of surgery. (What is torn is called a "labrum," if you're interested. The guy who caught a glimpse of my personals, the one who held my legs up over my head while I threatened to faint, told me that he only saw torn labrums in girls who do the high kick for a living, so I should feel secure.)
But on more interesting and less depressing news, HWWV borrowed a fish eye lens and we all had a turn last night.
BTW: I also finally had some inspiration for that Allhemp6Lux--a summer cardigan that can double as a little cover up for a tank or bathing suit, something that can be worn between seasons, too. Now that I have finally finished that one project (it is for Stitch Diva), I can get down to it. I'll cast on a swatch tonight in between cookies, juicing a million lemons for future sorbets (sis has a tree that was absolutely leaning over with the fruit) and making lip gloss for Girlfriend's friends at school. I have a feeling the lip gloss will come first.

Sorry to hear about your hip!
And you make lip gloss? How does one make lip gloss? If it's not too long and drawn out, would you be willing to tell us how you do it?

We got a kit at Target. No voodoo here.

Well now, at least it isn't a total hip replacement! Maybe it can be fixed with arthroscopy or like you said, with PT. Perhaps, once better, you can do some lower extremity strength training.
Have fun with the lip gloss. Make some lemon flavored!

You are too funny

Sorry to hear the hip is becoming a Bigger Deal and not just going back to normal on its own.
I'm keeping a good thought for you and a speedy recovery.

BTW: Your Elinor Tank is so beautiful.

Sorry to hear about your hip. That stinks! The dog pictures are hilarious. The last one looks like he is smiling. Love it!

Oh dear, so sorry to hear about the hip. One likes to be hip in the groovy sense, not in the injured sense - not that you couldn't do both at once, but...

Well, isn't that just the pits (hip thing)! I do hope you're able to get relief via therapy.

You are just too young to have this happening to you.
Crap.
I will pray for the best possible solution for you, Wendy!
In the mean time...I wonder how a gin and tonic would look in the fish eye lens :o)
Love and get well wishes,
Donna

I had a friend who was told her hip pain was inevitable arthritis, but strong pain kept her from walking any distance. Finally, an MRI showed a tear in the labrum, even though the orthopedic guy had said those only happened in athletes. A quick arthroscopic procedure smoothed the edges of the tear and *completely* eliminated her pain. Yes, she is walking just fine now!
It was a simple procedure with minimal invasion, so I hope yours turns out to be as quickly fixed.

I'm so sorry to hear about your hip troubles. I can relate, believe me. There are so many things you can't do, and it's awful. I know.
Hopefully, things will work out, and you'll be good as new. Thanks for the doggie pictures. I love them.

Fingers and toes crossed for you that you that your hip can be repaired with physical therapy and no surgery.

Oh boy, do I feel your pain. I had the same needle in small joint space experience. Except my torn labrum is in my right shoulder. SLAP tear, they call it but no surgery for me. They're still holding out hope for intensive therapy.
High kicks, eh? You go, Wendy! BTW, thanks for the Allhemp tip at kpixie. Mine is on its way, even though I can't knit at present. I remain hopeful, and so should you.

Sorry to read about your hip trouble. I hope you can resolve it soon.

remind us again how you hurt yourself? It sounds a lot more serious in the past few posts.
10 years ago I did a half marathon (walking, no running for me) The training I did gave me a peculiar ache that hurt like crazy, until I started walking or exercising, then it would ease up. It was so strange. It made me feel very vulnerable.
Love of sports does not come naturally to me....but I can't imagine how I would feel if I couldn't do that daily stuff..Get better!!

According to my daughter's orthopedic surgeon, sometimes surgery does not fix a labrum tear. (She is 16 and a high-kicking ballerina.) He's a conservative fellow and reccomended lots of P.T., accupuncture, pilates, etc. Unfortunately, her pain was not resolved after a year of those treatments. Get a second opinion, please! Any surgery is a big deal.

You have lots of people sending their good vibes your way. I really hope your hip heals fast. I know surgery is a big deal, but I have to say my boss finally got surgery on his hip after about four years of gimping around in excruciating pain. About a week after surgery he was walking without a limp or any pain. He's a lot older than you and I have no idea what the real problem was, I just hope you have an equally speedy or at least total recovery.
On the up side, I'm pretty sure you are the only person I 'know' who can look hot in a fish eye lens. I love the photos! Try to keep smiling. I hear it's the best medicine.

I saved Gus's picture as my background. I just love him!

I have no idea what the possibility of hip surgery might be like. However, I hope that everything goes well for you and you start feeling pain-free asap.
And I also hope you figure out what to do with the Allhemp6 Lux asap, because I've been lusting over it and I'm concerned that it's too heavy for anything.

Geez...that sucks about your hip. I'll keep my fingers crossed that p.therapy is the answer. Good luck with the lip gloss. The 6-yr-old diva at my house is really into the gloss now, so I'll be anxious to see how yours turns out.
