When the Time Change Changes You
The Time Change changes us. We live for afternoons out of doors. We live for music that bugs the neighbors (well, at least the one with too much time on her hands, the one on the right). A bit of beer on the terrace. A gin and tonic with ice that's clear. You have to get it from the supermarket. I learned this from a fabulous LYS frequenter who lamented her new fridge that made ice that was white. After many complaints and a few conversations with an associate at the local Bevmo, she discovered that she was returning her refrigerators for no good reason. The ice that's totally clear can only come from a different source, like a liquor store. We verified this whole thing today because our ice maker has been on the fritz for a week. HMMW finally bought some ice from the local grocery and boy oh boy, if I had access to this type of ice on a more frequent basis, you'd have to buy a red wagon to wheel me from the kitchen to the backyard, and then out the front door and to the park and back for fear I'd trip from all the cocktails with all that clear ice swimming around so alluring-like.
Anyway.
Time changed today and in our home, it's a time for celebration.
We woke up early. We flew kites. We ate some burritos. We ripped out our entire herb bed and replanted. HWWV broke out a cigar and I finished it. I also worked on my Celebration Table Runner.
I suggest that you don't take on any hemp leftovers should I post it on a de-stashing event. It will most certainly stink.
BTW: Recently, I read a forum comment about a pattern I designed. It said something to the effect: "Again, Wendy has designed a pattern for Wendy and Wendy only. You know, the girl who works out every day and has really low body fat."
Hah! As if.
For a minute, that comment bugged me, but now it doesn't. You know why? . .
Look up, look up and around, you knitters! There are all types and manner of patterns around you! There are patterns for the dumpy, there are patterns for the frumpy. There are patterns for the sexy, sexless, surly and burly. There are patterns for those who count stitches and calculate their gauge every second row. There are patterns for those who knit in the round. There are patterns for those who don't care if the outcome is good as long as their skillz are well presented. You want a tent? Knit it! You want a tank? Knit it! You want a bathing suit? Crochet it! You want a bra? Don't knit it; buy it! You want something that flatters? Look in the mirror, and then, and only then decide what is right!
There are patterns for everyone.
So what's up with the fact that I knit sexy?
Word.
(Enjoy your new afternoon/evening sunlight.)

That's right - you go on wit yo sexy knittin'!
Loving the sunlight too!

And why shouldn't you design patterns that fit you? Isn't that half the fun?
Posted by: Tikabelle | March 09, 2008 at 10:27 PM
You don't only design for you, you design for me, too! I like my sexy body, so why shouldn't I flaunt it? And yup, one of these days I WILL get around to making Sizzle. :)

Hmmm...last I noticed, no one was holding guns to knittaz' heads, forcing them to knit particular designs.
You design whatever your lil heart desires, and people will knit what their hearts desire, and we'll all be good.
Feh.
(BTW, I'm glad you love the time change. Me, I'm dragging for days when it happens. Maybe I should take up cigars?)

Go Wendy with your awesome sexy attitude!

Not only are you right about there being patterns for everybody, but....I was looking at a variety of "Flair" sweaters on Ravelry, and some of the really nice-looking ones were knit by (and worn by) some larger sized ladies. I don't know if they made any mods to suit their figures better but they were flattering on them.

Yay!

Great attitude Wendy! You're absolutely right... I'm glad you're able to dust those comments off and keep going!

Word girl! Amen.
You design for me too and I'm proud of it. From one Southern California knitter to another.... thank you!

You go girl!
The reason we (lurkers) enjoy reading your blog, is cause you do knit (and apparently wear) sexy knitted stuff!! btw I've still not found the right yarn to do my own Sizzle in, but I will one of these days! Keep designing how you do, cause that will save me having to work out my own designs!

First of all, I appreciate the spelling of "skillz" with a z. Gives knitting some much needed street cred.
As for your patterns being designed for athletic sexy people... I think the beauty of knitting in the round and from the top down is that you can adjust a pattern to your specifics. Maybe don't have a flat stomach and want some extra ease? Just add it! I don't think any pattern is particularly restrictive--if you have the balls to measure yourself and make some alterations.
The thing you can't alter about a pattern, though, is the young style and sexiness of it. As a young knitter (I'm 20) I have zero interest in knitting shawls and boxy cabled numbers; I'd rather spend my time knitting something that will take advantage of my 20-year-old frame. So I appreciate the patterns you and other youthful designers create.
As you said, there are patterns for everyone. You just happen to provide some great stylish youthful designs... and those designs help remind us knitters that with the right needles, yarn, and cut, knitting can be really fashionable.

You know you're a sexy bitch. I mean...who else rocks the sunglasses AND cigar like that? You go on with your sexy knitz.

I for one love the sexy knitting!
As for ice, well, I come from New Zealand where we don't have fridges that make ice. If you want clear ice cubes you put some water in an ice cube tray, let it rest for a while (all the bubbles etc get out or something), THEN freeze it.

Hi Wendy! It's been awhile since I've had a chance to stop by and catch up. I'm glad to hear that you are still being true to your style. Designing things "for Wendy" is what brought people here in the first place. If you designed like anyone else then that wouldn't be the reason people liked your stuff. Keep doing you, cause it's what you do best.

Wendy, I think I love you! You made me smile on London's rainiest, stormiest morning so far this year. It also happens to be a day when we ran out of coffee. So thanks for the smile! A fairly major achievement. Also, I love your designs. Don't stop with them.

What that commenter said is crap. I've made several of your patterns and they look much, much better on my size 3x self than all the boxy, non-fitted stuff out there.
Yay for you, phooey on them.

ha - we have a neighbour like yours too. She complains that she can hear us talking to each other in the garden!!! Far too much spare time!

Don't worry about the haters. Keep the sexy knits coming.
Posted by: Dawn | March 10, 2008 at 02:59 AM
as a designer surely the thought process must start with thinking about a knit that you as a person would want to wear, also your going to want to wear your final outcome, and also try it on and adjust it for fit etc too. I like that you and other similar designers are making wearable patterns that span a few age groups etc, I love them and so does my mum!
p.s. curse you and your warmth and sunny days....Cairi in wet windy and icey cold scotland ;) hehee

What a great way to approach the Spring time change. Can't say I've every noticed that about the ice but now ya got me curious.
As for the design patterns. Oh come on! One pattern that would fit all types and shapes of females would be boring. The wonderful thing about knitting or crocheting is the person can adapt the pattern to fit them. I know sometime in the future I'm going to wave my magic knitting needle and make Girlfriend's Drive Thru sweater into an adult size for me.

You keep right on doing just what you do, Wendy! Sometimes even a girl with a little body fat wants to feel a bit sexy and you've got quite a few patterns that will do that very well!

LOVE your patterns.Keep designing them sexxy.and yes, a misspell, but keeping it there!
And some of us LOVE working out every day.And we reap the benefits.
LOL

You have a wide variety of patterns, and all represent your own takes on modern styles. Nothing wrong with that!
