Happy Thanksgiving! Here is a link to the lyrics of Up on the Rooftop.

I had to know this song! The house of Benjamin Hanby sat on campus at the college I attended and we even had a plaque on campus dedicated to him and this song! I had to sing it standing on a street corner when I was pledging my sorority! The line is "Ho, ho, ho, who wouldn't go..."

donna lee

It's definitely "who wouldn't go" so I guess no one wins. Happy Thanksgiving to your and your family.

Jenn

What is it about kids that age that they just suck you in to weird arguments like that? I've been sucked into far too many with my own kids.

Kuka

ooooh we had that one on a sing-along christmassy cartoon video with the words coming up on the screen as Yogi and Boo-boo help deliver presents!!

sprite

I'm with the other commenters: "who wouldn't go."

flutter

heh I am so loving the hair in that pic

Elisabeth

Yep, definitely "who wouldn't go?" (As in, 'Who wouldn't go up on the housetop and down through the chimney with Old Saint Nick, if given the chance?')

Stephanie

What? You mean you weren't right? Don't EVER admit that to the kids!!! They are suppose to think we know everything there ever was to know about anything. GAH! The horror!!!! She knows you don't know now!!!!!!! I am scared for you. (just kidding. I'm usually totally wrong about all the stupid stuff as well. How was I suppose to know which Transformer was a good guy or a bad one? I didn't until I saw the movie! And many many other things as well...but he doesn't have to know that!)

You are lucky you didn't know what NaBloPoMo was until now. I read too many blogs that posted about it not to know..and I got sucked in. It's been a scary month over there at my ol' blog. It is fun and tedious all at once.

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Amanda

aah, you had me second guessing myself when i thought it was "who wouldn't go"! i remember sitting on the gymnasium/ auditorium floor every holiday season in elementary school, singing along as the principal pointed along on the overhead projector!
try to divert girlfriend's attention to something else to avoid the issue. involve something sparkly... that might work?@?

Carson

Nice photo...is that a gin + tonic sitting on the far right of your desk? ;)

Mary K. IN Rockport

We use Raffi's Christmas songs recording as the last word. It's a great CD, by the way, for the holidays.

marti

On the whole idea of knowing everything...I hate it when my kids tell me stuff, that I have said a million times but due to the fact I am the mommy its not believable, and it's suddenly true because the teacher said it.
I am off to google NaBloPoMo........

Heather

I don't know the lyrics but Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. May you eat your fill and not feel bad about it..

amy

for us it was always "up on the housetop" instead of rooftop, and it was "ho, ho, ho, who wouldn't go" like the others said. =]

Sarah T.

I thought it was "Up on the Housetop" - we sang it every Christmas in my elementary school choir, so I know for a fact the line is "Ho, ho ho! Who wouldn't go?"

KeanaLee

Even though we know the correct answer - I would have gone with "who would know".........so I was way off!

Jennifer

Not a clue about the song. I know what it's like to argue with a 5 year old, and have to admit being wrong. Neither she nor I are good at admitting defeat, so debates get pretty heated around here.

Happy Thanksgiving!

cindy

We always sang "up on the housetop", and "who would know". But what do we know. We also always sang "Children laughing, people passing, meople passing, meople passing ..." in Silent Night, because our Johnny Mathis record skipped there. We would leave it on skipping and singing along until our mom yelled at us to smack it already.

My brother and I always argued about when the Day before the night before Christmas is. He says it is the 23rd, because the night before Christmas is the 24th, so the day before that is the 23rd. I say that since day comes before night, the day of the 24th comes before the night of the 24th, so the 24th is the day before the night before Christmas.

Happy Knitter

Here's the way we sing/ i learned it. Happy holidays!

Up on the housetop
reindeer pause,
Out jumps good old Santa Claus.
Down thru' the chimney
with lots of toys,
All for the little ones,
Christmas joys.
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Up on the housetop,
click, click, click,
Down thru' the chimney
with good Saint Nick.

First comes the stocking
of little Nell,
Oh, dear Santa
fill it well;
Give her a dolly
that laughs and cries
One that will open
and shut her eyes.
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Up on the housetop,
click, click, click,
Down thru' the chimney
with good Saint Nick.

Next comes the stocking
of little Will,
Oh just see
what a glorious fill
Here is a hammer
and lots of tacks,
Also a ball
and a whip that cracks.
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Up on the housetop,
click, click, click,
Down thru' the chimney
with good Saint Nick.

Katie

Definitely "...who wouldn't go...". :)

Rose

I thought it was "who wouldn't know" ?

Miz Booshay
