Well if you take your balls to work, that's the type of reaction you should expect LOL! Just kidding ;) I loooooove the latest one you're working on. Is there a site or a book I can refer to? I would love to give it a try. What the hell...I might as well pick up yet another hobby to keep my hands busy. You're not alone by the way. My right hand has been acting funky which put my bathing suit for my cruise on hold *sob*. I guess a functioning hand is more important than knitting. Right?? Say "right" so I can believe it LOL.

very beautiful though

I had to look at that thing close-up, it is incredible! As far as your hands, get thee to an acupuncturist. Nerve damage is no fun and acupuncture is a much more proactive measure than surgery down the line. Listen to me, how bossy and authoritative.

Impessive ball(s)...........

Amazing technique. It looks like a stained glass piece. Gorgeous.

** I agree w/Sonya - Acupuncturist - STAT!

I am so glad to know I'm not the only one obesessed by these little balls! ROFL. OMG, since our class Saturday I can't put them down. I haven't knit anything either. See how much trouble the three of us can find together? Look on the brightside, we could have become obsessed with last year's yarn dying class instead...

I knit my hand into no-knitting shape a couple of springs ago. The problem was it started to hurt but I kept knitting. How stupid, eh? After one day of knitting through the pain I was toast. I couldn't knit 3 stitches without debilitating pain setting in. I went to the doctor and it wasn't bad...yet. I had to quit knitting for 6 months! It was worth it. No pain after that and I learned my lesson. Do not knit through the pain! Take a break!

Uh oh, now you've got me thinking I should give this a try...

I've not experienced the nervous twitching but I have awakened from sleep to find my hand in arthritic claw-like shapes. A break did help as did a change in project/needle sizes. That was when I learned that I didn't have to knit every waking moment of free time and the world would still stay "stitched together." I'm glad to know there's something intriguing out there when I grow weary of knitting. I'm also glad to know that I have quite the stash of perle cotton from a previous doily crocheting episode. Now I just have to get the balls.

Wow. Doilies. Shoot: I went through that phase about 20 years ago. I wonder if it will ever come back...

those are so gorgeous

Sounds like the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome to me. Definitely take a break, hard as that is to do. From my perspective (three hand surgeries in two years... yikes!), intermittent knitting is better than no knitting at all.

I think part of my problem is that I use an Apple Laptop and I negotiate all the stuff with one of those touch-pads---with my right hand.

Can I say I love your balls without sounding too forward? I just googled online and found a bit of a tutorial and bookmarked it, should the urge strike to attempt this myself. They are really pretty, especially the one in today's post, I love the colours! I am becoming re-obsessed with photography since getting a new lens. Another hobby could put me over the edge!

Your Temari balls are truly stunning! But clearly you hand is telling you something... you need to knit too!

My hands have twitched for years, always at the point of consciousness right between awake and asleep.

My husband won't let me fall asleep with my arm over him anymore because I invariably tickle him with the twitching.

I can still knit and perform my everyday duties as a veterinarian (including surgery), so I wouldn't get too worried about it.

Hopefully your hand twitch is just from knitting withdraw and not a sign of anything serious.

Man, your ball is beautiful! Is the work as tedious as it looks?

I think the thread-covered balls are a great way to play with color on a small scale, which is all to the good as far as knitting goes. It's kind of like you've just run a knitting marathon with the (you know) and I imagine you need to do something else for a bit.

This may sound like madness but you might want to consider trying to learn a different style of knitting, just so you can switch it up. You know, if you throw, try continental. If you knit standard, try combined. Either of those vice versa, as the case may be.
Then just practice until you can switch them around on a whim. Just a thought. Maybe someone else already suggested that.

I loooooooove the thread balls (hehe, am I the only one not mature enough to right that without laughing?) I've always wanted to try but don't feel I'd have the patience to do the initial wrapping for the solid color. Plus, my lord, do I really need another craft? I think I'll do it vicariously through you. More more more.

Sometimes the cheapest yarn you can find is what's already paid for in your stash & it might not have gotten used for years.

I've been having issues with my left hand, not sure what it is but its bothering me so I have stopped knitting for a few nights, I HATE not being able to to do anything crafty when I actually WANT too!

I absolutely love them....I just stepped in so I will look back to see if the pattern is listed in your blog but I would love to have balls like these!! :)

also that word makes me think of Tiramisu. I should flash my cotton perle stash- a stepmother saw me make one doilie and bought a garbage bag full of the stuff from a yard sale- Soon there will be hand dyed variagated cotton perle on the blogs! You're such a trend setter Wendy-la

I'll bet they were jealous of your beautiful creations instead of torching the place...

Carpal tunnel methinks!!

I saw some of those "balls" at my knitting night. They are quite impressive, I can totally understand your new obsession! It sounds as if you are feeling guilty for liking something other then knitting - just worry about having fun!
